Masseter Treatment
Jaw Slimming or Masseter Reduction Treatment is a relatively simple non-surgical procedure commonly performed at COCO Skin Clinic. It is used to treat bruxism (teeth grinding) and to slim the face/jaw. Masseter muscle is a strong muscle that forms part of our jawline and is involved in the mechanism of chewing. Habitual teeth grinding can increase the size of the masseter muscle and jawline and can lead to troublesome headaches. It can also make the face look more masculine or square-shaped.
Wrinkle relaxers or anti-wrinkle injections are used to minimise the movement or clenching of the masseter muscle. This not only improves teeth grinding symptoms, but also decreases the size of the masseter muscle, slims the jawline over few weeks and can also alleviate headaches.
Before the Treatment
Prior to Jaw Slimming or Masseter Reduction treatment at COCO Skin Clinic you will receive a consultation with Dr Jane Lucas to determine if this is the right treatment for you. During this time, you will be able to ask questions and have any concerns addressed.
During the Treatment
The treatment is only minimally uncomfortable and typically does not require any anaesthetic. However, we do routinely offer topical numbing cream if you’d prefer. Ice is applied, before a few quick injections into the area being treated. The treatment is very quick and the injections only take a few minutes.
After the Treatment
Once the treatment has been completed, you can return to your normal duties or return to work immediately. You may notice a few tiny red injection site marks. These generally subside within 15 mins. We will discuss your aftercare with you and give you written aftercare instructions. We advise to avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day, avoid lying flat for 4 hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the area.

Number of Treatments
Early results are seen as little as 2 weeks after the 1st treatment. Facial slimming changes can be expected to be seen within 4-8 weeks. Follow-up is arranged at 6-8 weeks where the treatment is assessed and can be adjusted accordingly.
Longevity of Results
The results are expected to last for 6-12 months and can be repeated. Often the longevity of results increases with subsequent treatments.
