Dermal Fillers
Dermal filler is gel like substance made up of plumping agent naturally found in our skin. They are used to create or restore volume in the face. Dermal filler can be used to replace lost volume, even out asymmetry or enhance areas such as cheek bones and lips. There are many different types of dermal fillers approved for cosmetic use in Australia. They vary in strength, mouldability, softness and longevity. At COCO Skin Clinic we only offer premium-grade dermal fillers to our patients.
Before the Treatment
Prior to dermal filler treatment at COCO Skin Clinic you will receive a face-to-face consultation with your treatment provider to determine if this is the right treatment for you. During this time, you will be able to ask questions and have any concerns addressed. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to ensure that all make-up and residue is removed prior to treatment. It will be disinfected using medicated solution.
During the Treatment
Topical numbing cream will be applied to treatment areas. We also use premium dermal fillers which all contain a numbing agent in their composition. With these measures, most people find that dermal filler treatments are only minimally uncomfortable, depending on the area being treated.
After the Treatment
You may experience localised bruising and swelling of the treated area immediately following dermal filler treatment. The extent of this is very individual – however, we find that in most people, localised swelling settles within 24-48 hours and bruising settles within a few days. However, we do recommend that you allow 2 weeks recovery period before any major social events.
The Results
The results of dermal filler treatment are evident immediately. Results with dermal filler will depend on the concern being addressed. Dermal filler has the potential to achieve results such as enhancing feminine or masculine features, restoring and maintaining youthful appearance and correcting irregularities or asymmetries.
In younger patients, enhancement with respect to the individual’s anatomy and facial structures is the aim. Creating beautiful high cheek bones, sharper jawline and plumper lips is possible.
In mature patients, natural looking restoration is the aim of treatment. We advocate for a natural looking, rejuvenated result – similar to as if you’ve been on a relaxing holiday.

Longevity of Results
The typical longevity of premium dermal filler treatment is 12 – 18+ months. However, the longevity of dermal filler treatment also depends on the individual, the type of filler being used and the area being treated. For example, softer fillers like those often used for lip filler treatment, typically last for 9-12+ months and tear trough dermal fillers tend to last 18-24 months.
Following the initial treatment, termed ‘foundation filler’, maintaining the results often requires less syringes of dermal filler, in most individuals. For example, to maintain the results from a non-surgical liquid lift using dermal fillers, most people can simply ‘top up’ annually with approximately half of the amount of dermal filler used in their initial foundation filler treatment. This treatment program is only a guide and your treatment provider will recommend the treatment plan that is right for you.
